What is Disprol used for?Disprol preparations contain children's doses of paracetamol. Prostaglandins are produced by the body in response to injury and certain diseases. One of their actions is to sensitise nerve endings, so that when the injury is stimulated it causes pain (presumably to prevent us from causing further harm to the area). Don't give your child other medicines that contain paracetamol in combination with Disprol, as this can easily result in exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose of paracetamol. Many cold and flu remedies and other painkillers contain paracetamol, so be sure to check the ingredients of any other medicines before giving them in combination with Disprol, or ask your pharmacist for advice.
Colestyramine reduces the absorption of paracetamol from the gut. You should avoid giving it within an hour of paracetamol or the effect of the paracetamol will be reduced.
Metoclopramide and domperidone may increase the absorption of paracetamol from the gut.
